Matthew minored in clarinet performance at American University, and as such has had performance oppurtunities for solo work with collaborative pianist and as a member large ensembles. He performed a senior recital in April of 2024, which included Scaramouche by Darius Milhaud, Sonate pour clarinette et piano by Francis Poulenc, movement three of The Cape Cod Files by Paquito D'Rivera, Forgotten Boots by David Bruce, Sonatina for clarinet and piano by Joseph Horovitz, and Spiraled by Matthew himself.

Besides his recital, recent performances at the university include Fantasy on Themes from Verdi's La traviata for Clarinet and Piano by Donato Lovreglio, Concertino for Clarinet by Carl Maria von Weber, and select movements from Concerto no. 2 "Grand" in F minor by Bernhard Henrik Crusell, Concerto for clarinet, strings, and harp by Aaron Copland, and Sonata for Clarinet and Piano no. 1 in F Minor by Johannes Brahms.
